Lobola means ‘dowry’ and is an old (South) African tradition that after negotiations the broom pays the dowry in cows but the family of the bride pays for the wedding and usually plays even. The more cows; the bigger (more important) the wedding. The ‘lobola’ in the picture says that there is a fairly big wedding on its way in this village.

I did not know that you have dowry in South Africa. It is a custom that is quite evil, at least in India

It’s absolutely not regarded as ‘evil’ in South Africa. It’s more based on free will of bride and broom to be than it is in some other countries. Negotiations between the two families however can be though and can take a long time.

Haven’t got any. Sent me link and I will bookmark it. Experience with online translators in the past is that they are not always correct; to use an understatement.
