The Baardskeerdersbos Art Route

Today we ‘did’, as last year, the Baardskeersdersbos Art Route; an event organised by all residing artists of Baardskeerdersbos; a hamlet somewhere in nowhere in the Overberg region of the Western Cape, South Africa. There are 14 artists living is this place but they invited colleagues from elsewhere to co-participate so we lost count of the total number of artists. We did not intend to see them all anyway for that would have been too much. We were impressed by some of the works of photographer Kali van der Merwe (especially the insects) and surprised by work of ‘guest artist’ Leli Hoch. The sculptures of Niel Jonker (see one of the pictures) we knew already but work (paintings) of Amanda Jephson was new for us. Liz van de Berg we met before and this artist makes an art form of fresh fish, i.e. she inks them for an imprint on paper.

Baardskeerdersbos is out of the ordinary; even the landscape is different or is it me?

" I like to explore the possibilities and limits of digital art, I just let it flow to see where it can go, sometimes the end result appears quickly, sometimes the creative process takes months and other times  the creation dies in its own beauty".
