Yesterday I published some snappy shots of the massive fire raging nearby. In the meantime I worked on 5 of these pictures.
But first the 4 I shot when the fire went fully out of control…. Holy Smokey …

😀 😀 😀 All shot from the front porch of our house and 100 meters further at the water reservoir where the chopper had it’s water intake 😉

terrifying – amazing shots. I knew they were having massive fires in Australia, but I hadn’t heard about the South African ones…

As in Australia the vegetation in this part of South Africa has to burn every that many years in order to scarify the seeds for germination. The Overberg region is where the proteas (globally sold by florists) and other ‘fynbos’ plants originate from. 😉

and of course that wasn’t a problem before human settlement… Love proteas

Hope everyone is OK where you are. Not a good year here for fires and the summer is only just beginning.

Every Summer is the same in parts of the Western Cape where the natural vegetation is ‘fynbos’ (Proteas, etc.). Fynbos seeds need fire (scarifying) for germination. 😉

Was terrible smelling the fire in a slight smoke haze here in Cape Town abd not knowing where it was until the news broke.Glad you are safe.
