In the meantime on the farm 2 (shearing sheep)

It’s partly sheep country over here and after the South African Winter the sheep have to be prepared for the Summer. That’s quite a process. Shearing, grading and packing. The pictures tell the story. With thanks to Groot Sanddrif Farm between here and there.

  1. Are the fleeces worth much? In Wales the fleeces went through a period of being pretty much worthless (maybe £1.50 per sheep) due to the decline in demand for wool (carpets being less popular etc)? For many farmers they make a loss on shearing.
