Herman, Little Stint this is not, that’s a plover’s bill. I would guess White-fronted Plover Charadrius marginatus, or maybe Kittlitz’s Plover C. pecuarius. Adrian

There is a lot of discussion going on. Different birding books have different names for this one. South African bird books are not always reliable so it seems. According to known birders from the UK and Russia this should be a ‘White-fronted Plover or Charadrius marginatus ‘Vaalkiewiet’ in Afrikaans). I’ve had this problem before. In the different books the Blue Crane for example has different taxonomy (Latin) names. Same is happening with plant names. I have ‘A field guide to the Birds of Southern Africa’ published by ‘Nature Lover’s Library’ and written by O.P.M. Prozesky ISBN 000219192. It’ very confusing to get to know the correct bird names Adrian. So forgive me please my errors. And keep correcting me!!! 😉 ❤
