Lockdown

The countdown has begun. Tonight at 11:59 PM there will be a lockdown of Napier and the rest of South Africa for 3 weeks.

  1. Sterkte Herman. Hier in Nederland ligt het openbare leven ook zo’n beetje stil. Gelukkig mogen we er nog wel uit voor een frisse neus. Het is hier al de hele week heerlijk voorjaarsweer. Fris windje uit het oosten maar volop zon en overal bloesems. Ik geniet ervan zolang het kan.

    1. Heb zojuist de Nederlandse kranten gelezen. Denk dat Rutte CS and RIVM tamelijk laks zijn en de epidemie onderschatten. Hier is het grote probleem de lokaties (townships) waar mensen dicht op elkaar wonen en met relatief grote gezinnen… Wist je dat het grootste deel van de Kaapstadse bevolking (3 miljoen) in ‘townships’ en informele nederzettingen (‘shacks’) woont?

  2. Yes, we are in lockdown here which, personally – and being retired – I don’t find too bad. However, as you know, I’ve lived in Africa, and I very much agree with your reply to Emma. In populous countries, especially in the Third World, its one thing to proclaim a lockdown and quite another to meaningfully enforce it.
