Red Bishop

The Southern Red Bishop (Euplectes orix)

  1. Thanks once again for the memories, Herman. When we stayed in Johannesburg, we knew spring had finally arrived when we saw the red bishops. As the males only have that bright red plumage when it’s mating season we always considered males in courtship times to be exceptionally stupid – it was the only time that our cat managed to catch a bird or two.
