Imaginary; play with elements

It was Pablo Picasso who once said: “Everything you can imagine is real“.

With modern photo-processing software it’s relatively easy to loosen elements from their original settings in photographs and combine them in a new picture. The new image can look realistic or not. This time I choose for the latter.

I love to play with elements even if the end result makes one wonder …. like this imaginary compiled of elements of 6 different pictures; 5 of these also rotated vertical and/or horizontal.

One of those little things 6: the musical frog

Most people have those invaluable things in and around the house. It can be a souvenir from a place visited; memories from childhood, a heirloom or whatever. I’ve made a photographic inventory in our house and I publish the images in this blog, one by one. They are all in B&W.

Today is the day of the ‘musical frog’. Many visitors of Africa return home with a wooden giraff. You can buy them everywhere in different sizes. Finding musical frogs is not always that easy. These are made by woodworkers in Southern and Central Africa. Any idea how to play them?

One of these little things 5: a crystal

Todays ‘little thing’ is a crystal we found somewhere during a trip along the Orange River which borders with Namibia.

One of those little things 4: the tabacco pot

Most people have those invaluable things in and around the house. It can be a souvenir from a place visited; memories from childhood, a heirloom or whatever. I’ve made a photographic inventory in our house and I publish the images in this blog, one by one. They are all in B&W.

Today is for the ‘tabacco pot’. This is a heirloom from Holland ans is for some generations in the family and about 150 years ago handmade and hand painted in Delft. In the old days it was used for the storage of chewing-tabacco and normally had a place on the mantelpiece. During long Winter evenings the men sat around the fire and chew the tabacco. When finished the tabacco was spit in the fire or in a small bucket next to the fire.

Adenium

Originating from East Africa and Madagascar is the plant genus Adenium. This is most probably an Adenium Swazicum but it can also be a hybrid. Originally we bought this plant as a seedling at a nursery in Vanrhynsdorp in South Africa but than as a seedling of a cheap local plant but what do those nursery people know…. Of the originally picture I erased the background in Photoshop and added an image of the evening sky of a few months ago. Next I cropped the new imaginary and resized it. I also changed from 32 bits to 16 bits and with that I let the originally colors change slightly just to accentuate.

One of those little things 3: Pin up

Most people have those invaluable things in and around the house. It can be a souvenir from a place visited; memories from childhood, a heirloom or whatever. I’ve made a photographic inventory in our house and I publish the images in this blog, one by one. They are all in B&W.

Today is “Pin up’. Before we go to bed at night we check if we have appointments the next day or other urgencies. If so we stick a ‘pin up’ in one of the bed lamps and every morning we look. Works perfectly.

One of those little things 1: Happiness

Most people have those invaluable things in and around the house. It can be a souvenir from a place visited; memories from childhood, a heirloom or whatever. I’ve made a photographic inventory in our house and during the next days I’ll publish the images in this blog. They are all in B&W.

Today is ‘Happiness’.

It’s (although ‘Made in China’) a souvenir from Holland; the country of our birth and growth. Last year, after 11 years, I set foot again on Dutch soil. Happy to be back for a short while.

Prickly with some color

Often the beauty of a plant is in its details; especially with succulent plants but than these are also our favorite type of plants. Just look at this Mammillaria specie; prickly with some color.

Karuna revisited 1

Sometime ago I did a photo session with Karuna, a 13 year old girl from our village. At this stage I’m redoing the portraits I made in photoshop. Just a bit of experimenting. All picture-elements shot in our garden and here in Stanford.

Today the first revisited image. Three more to follow this week.

Happy Birthday Card

Every now and than I compose a new Birthday card for our Facebook-friends. I just did it again. For the first image I applied the mask feature of photoshop. The second imaginary I made last year and served as ‘ground material’ for the first.
