Cactus season has started

Although we had a few flowering cacti this Winter; most of the cacti flower between September and February/March. This Fero Cactus symbolizes the beginning of the Cactus Season here in South Africa. Although even local cactus nurseries tell their customers (who prefer indigenous plants) that cacti originate from (South) Africa I can assure you that they all originate from the Americas except for one (Rhipsalis baccifera) which does not look like a cactus at all and originate from coastal woodland between Durban and Kenya …

The first picture is shot from the back entrance of the Mount Nelson Hotel at around 5:30 AM. Than I turned myself around for the second picture and pictured Signal Hill (next to Table Mountain).

Little Karoo Sunrise (6 pictures)

There are people who find ‘spiritual enlightment’ in a decorated (bit of paint, a few candles) pig stable in McGregor in South Africa and if they are happy with it … fine with us. They pay a little fortune for that and that is fine for the owner … πŸ˜‰

We went budget friendly into the mountains somewhere in the hot and dry Little Karoo and disappeared in emptiness …..
