CREATIVE NAPIER

Pop – Up Art Week

27- 30  December 2022

Tuesday to Friday: Daily from 10am – 4pm.

Napier is renowned as an arty town. During December 2022, the artists of Napier will once again show just how creative this little town really is.

Building on the success of two previous art routes, the CREATIVE NAPIER ART WEEK, will take place again from 27 December to 30 December, when 17 artists will show their work. Private studios will be open to the public, giving a rare peak into the creative world of the Napier artist community. Many walls in other venues like restaurants, shops and cafes will also be used to display exhibitions.

Mediums range from traditional painting to photography, photographic art, collage, ceramics, jewellery, botanical art as well as contemporary painting. CREATIVE NAPIER offers a fantastic selection covering most art forms and appealing to a wide range of art lovers.

During 2021, visitors from far and wide came to this creative event in the Overberg.  Holiday makers to Hermanus, Struisbaai, Arniston, Gansbaai and even from Cape Town (etc.) enjoyed the cultural outing, a welcome break from the beach days and used the opportunity to purchase quality art directly from the artists.

Maps will be available at all the exhibiting venues, as well as Napier restaurants.

At Studio98 along the main road in Napier you will find the work of jewellery designer Yvonne de Wit and photographic artist Herman van Bon.

A brief introduction:

Yvonne de Wit studied Fine Art in the Netherlands and lives since 22 years in South Africa.

Mesmerised by the colourful palet of the Overberg mountains she began to collect stones and soils. After a few Land Art projects she started to combine her collection of earth particles with copper, brass and Sterling Silver into pieces of jewellery that reflect the land in a different way.

Each piece is an ode to Mother Earth.

Her jewellery is recognised by a growing number of jewellery collectors around the globe for their design originality and the use (combination) of natural resources.

Since April 2016 Yvonne has her studio in Napier in the Western Cape; about 90 minutes drive from central Cape Town.

Born in the Netherlands and currently living in Napier, South Africa, photographic artist Herman van Bon explores the poetic qualities of photography. His images highlight the ethereal beauty of the landscapes around him; we loved how so much of the visual action takes place in the sky, with terrestrial life — trees, grass — merely a secondary character in a much bigger story”. – Ben Huberman (WordPress)

“Wat T.T. Cloete in sy gedig sê is waar: ‘die aarde is deur een dichter gemaak’. Mensen soos Herman van Bon het die gave om dit dmv fotografie vast te lê …. Dankie!” – Awie van Wyk

“The Hieronymous Bosch of the digital era”. – Lizia Nieman (RIP), L’Art Niemaclature

“In the Eye of the Beholder of Herman van Bon is a surprising and lovely image from South Africa” – Review of group exhibition in LAC Los Angeles in LA-Times

“Herman van Bon has an amazing eye for capturing beauty”. – Kamalini Govender in Tales and Dreams (USA)

“I just love the inventive, nuanced, beautiful and surprising work Herman van Bon keeps doing.” – Douglas Moorezart (USA)

“For the love of BEAUTY …… the photography of Herman van Bon …. this kind of work really hits me so deep that i feel sparks flying inside my head and the inspiration to produce MORE art then just wells up naturally within me. Thank you, Herman van Bon ….” – Johan J. Steyn
