Nest building of the Cape Wagtail (3 pictures)

It’s Winter but busy in our garden. Sunbirds (3 different species) warblers, mousebirds, starlings, pigeons and weavers, to name a few, moving around. In the grenadilla bush we have several bird species nesting every year. This time the Cape Wagtails are first to build their nest. Have a look.

The Klein Rivier Delta

Shot a few kilometers from our house: the Klein Rivier (‘Little River’) Delta; the area where this river goes over into a lagoon.

There are a few hundred different bird species nestling along ‘our’ river during the year. Reason to celebrate the, internationally highly recommended (by birding experts) annual bird fair in this village; this year in October I believe.

In the background the Klein Rivier Mountains.

Reiersvlei

One of the oldest farmhouses around Stanford, South Africa; since several years restored and extended and home of the ‘Bold and Beautiful’… The name Reiersvlei (heron’s stream) is derived from the surroundings where herons and over more than 100 other different bird species have their homes.
