(Old Delft tobacco pot)
Most people have those invaluable things in and around the house. It can be a souvenir from a place visited; memories from childhood, a heirloom or whatever. I’ve made a photographic inventory in our house and I publish the images in this blog, one by one. They are all in B&W.
Today is for the ‘tabacco pot’. This is a heirloom from Holland ans is for some generations in the family and about 150 years ago handmade and hand painted in Delft. In the old days it was used for the storage of chewing-tabacco and normally had a place on the mantelpiece. During long Winter evenings the men sat around the fire and chew the tabacco. When finished the tabacco was spit in the fire or in a small bucket next to the fire.
