Portfolio

Nothing is as difficult as selecting pictures for your own portfolio. This morning I tried and it resulted in a temporary portfolio. I’m far from satisfied hence the addition ‘temporary‘; it will change from time to time anyway. But it is a start.

In the cause of (beginning) 2014, with newly downloaded Photoshop plug-ins, the character of the pictures/imaginaries will change; recently I already published some trials (see also the ‘Portfolio Imaginaries‘ in the link which opens in a new window). To make a long story short just click here and see for yourself. I don’t expect anybody to follow this new (more or less ‘stationary’) blog but if you have remarks, tips, etc. please write those in the contact form of the opening page. THANK YOU!!!

At the moment I’m having a break on Facebook but without much (only in this blog) advertising the new FB-page (few weeks old) has 38 followers including 4 bloggers …. Within a few weeks I’ll add new pictures (abstracts/imaginaries) to that page. Twitters can follow my (scheduled) tweets via @greencathedral.

Me and social media; what about you?

EscapeThere are ‘those’ who are sending continuously their ‘where-about’ and ‘personal experience’ messages into cyberspace via a multitude of social media like Tumblr, Facebook and Twitter. I’m not a favourite of opening my ‘well-being’ or ‘not-so-well-being’ plus my ‘where-abouts’ to the whole world. I’m a bit of a cyberspace hermit in that regard but I do see the value of sharing my pictures with the world and if you can ‘read’ pictures and between text lines you might get a bit of a glimpse of me. And that is fine.

_DSC2596_598_599_600_601_tonemappedI must also admit that I am very lazy and lazy-ness in my case results in efficient use of social media. Every time I post in this blog it’s automatically shared on my Twitter, LinkedIn, Tumblr and (only if I want to) Facebook accounts. I rarely check my Tumblr and LinkedIn accounts but it’s a nice ‘niche’ to have as well. Once or twice per week I add one of more pictures to my Flickr account and almost daily I schedule my Tweets 10 to 100 days ahead with SocialOomph (meaning that I schedule a link to a blogpost with one click of the mouse) resulting in 50 to 100 repeating tweets daily. I do this since the discovery of SocialOomph a few months ago and it resulted so far in 4- t0 5-hundred new followers without having to follow others myself…. 😉 Another nice tool is Begware (just google); the free account allows you to automate retweets of up to 20 followers. And if these start to retweet your tweets the ‘snowball’ slowly gets bigger and bigger.

_DSC2126_45_50_fusedThe social medium most ‘intensively’ used by me is Facebook (although on FB I’m having a break until the beginning of January). And where I spend most time on FB is the ‘personal messages’ page where I and some FB-friends I personally know chat a bit every now and than). Bloggers/mutual followers on wordpress I also follow (also mutual) on FB are Leanne Cole, Andrew Harvard, Wendy McDonald, and Rabirius. A few of them also tweet.

blendedlandscape8HOWEVER I do have the feeling that more of my followers are on more social media than WordPress alone. Follow/like me on Twitter and FB and I will follow/like you. ‘Retweets’ do work on Twitter is my recent experience as do ‘likes’ on FB.

Initiation without the butcher

_DSC1443This post is a bit out of the context of this blog but I have to get rid of it. Just read it as some kind as ‘Thought on a Sunday Morning

If you look into all kinds of remarks on social media it’s amazing of what people write about themselves. Sometimes it’s the biggest nonsense that gets the most ‘likes’.

There is this guy, I know, who is a master in fooling his ‘friends’ and ‘followers’. He is in diverse social media under different names. Honestly I have something against people with different ‘aliases’. That on its own indicates some kind of multi-personality-disorder’.  The funny (?) thing is that he is believed by his audience. He would be a great car salesman I think. And to avoid misunderstandings; I’m not jealous!!!

Let’s say that he is Harry and Jerry to keep it simple for these two examples (but there are many more):

‘Harry’ is an art-photographer with a small snap shooter with front shutter. Nothing wrong with the equipment (he makes beautiful pictures every now and than) but if you live in a dusty area with gravel roads and nearby a beach you can expect that dust/sand can damage the front shutter during windy conditions. So one day he made a picture of a friend and the shutter got stuck in one or another way; resulting in a picture (on its own a nice one) of a portrait with an aura. But now the story. It’s all about magic and the miracle that overcame him when shooting this picture of this ‘tree hugging woman‘ in an ancient forest. Never had such a laugh; especially when I found out that he had to buy a new camera (the one with the aura was the camera’s last breath).

This week however I was even laughing louder. This time it was Jerry responding to a posting on Facebook “….. You know that I’m trying hard to be a Buddhist ….” etc., etc. And I thought: Well Josef (let’s say that this is his real name 😉 ) isn’t it time to cut the crap, sell your Mercedes (won’t be that difficult for you), fill your rug sack with dried fruits and so on, go and sit for 3 weeks or so in solitude on the mountain top (clouds and dew with provide you with water)? It’s like a tribal initiation but than without the ‘butcher’. Maybe, only maybe, than you will come to your inner self Josef or whatever your name is…

I rather stick to ‘friends’ and ‘followers’ with less blah blah blah. But who am I?

P.S. You might wonder why I’m a ‘follower’ of this person who I know fairly well. Very simple: in my heart I believe he is a truly nice guy who sees the beauty in his surroundings and experiences. He truly cares about people, is an excellent writer and so on. In conversations we always have a good laugh, etc. But I just don’t like it when certain people pretend to be different as who they really are. Speaking for myself I will never tell/write a story and pretend it really happened; the least I would do is mentioning it’s fiction, a fairy tale, a novel or whatever. There are already too many spin doctors out there. It also says something about the ‘believers’ . I’m astonished about the lack of critical ‘absorbing’ and interacting of those ‘believers’ …. And now I come to think of it I’m Laughing Out Loud (LOL). A good comprehensive read for all working with social media is this article about ‘netiquette’ or ‘online etiquette’.
