The ‘Whale’ in the Garden

This is one of the fastest growing succulent plants in our garden. It’s an Adenia spinosa and this caudiciform originates from the Highveld in South Africa somewhere in the area where one of my most faithful followers is nestled. The caudex can grow to approximately 2 meters in diameter. Last year I published an image on Facebook and somebody, who forgot to put her glasses on, thought it was a ‘whale’. Since than we always say that we have two whales in our garden. 😉whale4

Hit the 25000 views milestone

… and that is excluding the countless views via the WordPress reader by other bloggers. Thank you all! And until so far (after a tiny bit more than 1 yr) 675 followers who faithfully follow my trials and errors. It’s not the quantity of the followers that count but the quality. I’m very, very happy. 🙂 🙂 🙂

For all of you a flower (Dutch always say it with flowers!), a Stanford sunrise and a sunset.

Today is also the day that the latest online edition of LandnSand Magazine published my photographic essay about landscape photography.

Initiation without the butcher

_DSC1443This post is a bit out of the context of this blog but I have to get rid of it. Just read it as some kind as ‘Thought on a Sunday Morning

If you look into all kinds of remarks on social media it’s amazing of what people write about themselves. Sometimes it’s the biggest nonsense that gets the most ‘likes’.

There is this guy, I know, who is a master in fooling his ‘friends’ and ‘followers’. He is in diverse social media under different names. Honestly I have something against people with different ‘aliases’. That on its own indicates some kind of multi-personality-disorder’.  The funny (?) thing is that he is believed by his audience. He would be a great car salesman I think. And to avoid misunderstandings; I’m not jealous!!!

Let’s say that he is Harry and Jerry to keep it simple for these two examples (but there are many more):

‘Harry’ is an art-photographer with a small snap shooter with front shutter. Nothing wrong with the equipment (he makes beautiful pictures every now and than) but if you live in a dusty area with gravel roads and nearby a beach you can expect that dust/sand can damage the front shutter during windy conditions. So one day he made a picture of a friend and the shutter got stuck in one or another way; resulting in a picture (on its own a nice one) of a portrait with an aura. But now the story. It’s all about magic and the miracle that overcame him when shooting this picture of this ‘tree hugging woman‘ in an ancient forest. Never had such a laugh; especially when I found out that he had to buy a new camera (the one with the aura was the camera’s last breath).

This week however I was even laughing louder. This time it was Jerry responding to a posting on Facebook “….. You know that I’m trying hard to be a Buddhist ….” etc., etc. And I thought: Well Josef (let’s say that this is his real name 😉 ) isn’t it time to cut the crap, sell your Mercedes (won’t be that difficult for you), fill your rug sack with dried fruits and so on, go and sit for 3 weeks or so in solitude on the mountain top (clouds and dew with provide you with water)? It’s like a tribal initiation but than without the ‘butcher’. Maybe, only maybe, than you will come to your inner self Josef or whatever your name is…

I rather stick to ‘friends’ and ‘followers’ with less blah blah blah. But who am I?

P.S. You might wonder why I’m a ‘follower’ of this person who I know fairly well. Very simple: in my heart I believe he is a truly nice guy who sees the beauty in his surroundings and experiences. He truly cares about people, is an excellent writer and so on. In conversations we always have a good laugh, etc. But I just don’t like it when certain people pretend to be different as who they really are. Speaking for myself I will never tell/write a story and pretend it really happened; the least I would do is mentioning it’s fiction, a fairy tale, a novel or whatever. There are already too many spin doctors out there. It also says something about the ‘believers’ . I’m astonished about the lack of critical ‘absorbing’ and interacting of those ‘believers’ …. And now I come to think of it I’m Laughing Out Loud (LOL). A good comprehensive read for all working with social media is this article about ‘netiquette’ or ‘online etiquette’.

Detail ….

Left top corner of a poster I created …. The poster itself (the one with all those eyes) I published a few days ago in this blog. Some Facebook followers (Abstract Photography) mentioned that (some of) the eyes look ‘disgusting’, ‘creepy’, etc.  Love that!!! 😉

15000 hits

At 7 AM this morning this site achieved the milestone of 15000 hits. Not too shabby I hope. Thanks to all my followers and the others ‘who hit the nail on its head’ (Dutch expression). For all of you a flower parade. Dutch always say it with flowers; especially the ones living in South Africa.

Thank you!!!

But first of all thanks to the ‘love of my life’ Yvonne. Without her … ah… well.. 🙂
