Deformation

Sometimes plants do strange things. They don’t grow the way you expect them to grow. Some cacti species are very vunerable for influences of their environment and shape themselves into a cristate and with a cristate you never know how it develops. These pictures are of a Mammillaria specie in our garden.

Varkoor …..

…… is the name given to this Zantedeschia aethiopica by Afrikaner people. Translated it means ‘Pig’s Ear’. I prefer the common English name Arum Lily. This plant like to grow in damp areas and in our village you find them all over along streams..

Growing with the wind

White Milkwood  (Sideroxylon inerme) occur mainly in coastal areas in Southern Africa and they tend to grow with the wind.

Here a few along the ‘Wandelpad’ (hiking trail) in our village.
