Grey Heron (Ardea cinerea)

A rest after the delivery

In my youth in The Netherlands parents told their┬áchildren story that babies are delivered by storks. In South Africa I haven’t seen storks so it must be a relative; the heron.

One of the oldest farmhouses around Stanford, South Africa; since several years restored and extended and home of the ‘Bold and Beautiful’… The name Reiersvlei (heron’s stream) is derived from the surroundings where herons and over more than 100 other different bird species have their homes.
