… botanists call them ‘lithops’; Afrikaner people name them ‘baby buttocks’…
In South Africa ‘Baby Buttocks’ is one of the many names given to this Lithop specie. Lithops (several hundreds of species/hybrids/varieties) originate from Southern Africa and sometimes people walk on them assuming they are walking on stones; hence another name ‘Living Stones’.
The variety in our collection spreads the fragrance of a certain brand of baby powder. Technology isn’t that far yet that I can let you sniff this fragrance.
People have so many names for me; varying from ‘deer feet’ to ‘baby bottom’. Officially I am a lithop and my ‘genus’ occur in Botswana, Namibia and also a bit in South Africa. I like the given name ‘Living Stone’ for some people seemingly don’t notice my brothers, sisters and other family members when walking on the pebbles in my native land.
Luckily I’m potted.
