Within the Western Cape, South Africa it’s especially known that the town of Montagu has many Victorian houses. I lived in the area for 11 years but must admit that nearby Robertson has more Victorian architecture. The ‘Strachan’ house is a good example but such a pity that the local municipality installed a huge light tower (left in picture the reinforcement cable) in front of this monument which makes it difficult to make the right photograph.
We like to live rural surrounded by nice people and we don’t have to complain at all. But a rant towards the local municipality we have. Last week the parking spot of the municipal offices was tarred despite the excellent condition it was in and not so long ago a road was tarred which was also in an superb condition. But look at our street, the second busiest in the village, with some heavy trucks passing to and from the farms further down the road. It’s full of potholes. We don’t want our road to be tarred but well maintained and maybe, dear municipal manager, add a few road narrowings (cost less than tarring a parking lot of 300 sqm) which slows down some of the speedsters… Thanks.
