The most interesting art galleries in South Africa you sometimes find off the beaten track. The gallery of artists Willem and Tina De Roubaix for example. It’s in Wolvengat; somewhere in the outback of the Western Cape. The artist couple is not internet minded (so don’t google) but their clientele can be found around the globe.
Here an example of their work (just visit the gallery with its sculpture garden someday)
Wolvengat is not on many maps but on Google Maps (apps) you can find this hamlet in the middle of nowhere somewhere between Bredasdorp and Die Dam in the Western Cape. Wolvengat is home to one of the most fore-standing artists of South Africa; Willem Roubaix and his wife Tina. They have their own gallery there plus a sculpture garden with a wide variety of sculptures including a flight simulator.
The end of 2017 was a once off private performance of ‘The Better box Co’ of ‘THE HUNTING OF THE SNARK’ (by Lewis Carrol’) in, of all places, Wolvengat in the Western Cape, South Africa. The play was initiated by artist Willem de Roubaix who also created the moving cardboard orchestra (home made electronics and mechanics). If you think that Cape Town is South Africa, forget it; it’s only a small part of it. The real things happen in the ‘hinterland’ across the mountain…. Cape Town is just a ‘tourist thing’ 😉 .
